Coordinator — Artist in Residence Programme
Tashi Wangmo.
From threads, natural colours, and inherited knowledge, Tashi Wangmo's artistic practice explores the relationship between nature, textiles, culture, and education. Rooted in Bhutanese textile traditions and inspired by learning to weave with her mother from an early age, her work reflects a deep connection to material, memory, and place. She is drawn to natural fibres, plants, leaves, roots, flowers, and traditional weaving techniques, exploring how these materials carry stories of identity, heritage, and intergenerational knowledge. Natural dyeing becomes both a creative process and a way of engaging with the landscape, where colour, season, and material come together.
At Paro College of Education
At Paro College of Education, Tashi leads the Textile Education Laboratory and serves as the Coordinator of the Artist-in-Residence Programme, creating opportunities for artistic exchange and collaboration among international artists, educators, and students.
A Living Practice
Through weaving, natural dyeing, research, teaching, and artistic collaboration, Tashi seeks to keep Bhutanese textile traditions alive while creating space for contemporary interpretation and experimentation. Her practice is an invitation to look closely at materials and discover the stories, knowledge, and cultural memories woven within them.
